Going on its third year, Taj has kept its South Asian chic fresh with rotating parties, impeccable food, and a modern dcor. Borrowing from the old country and putting it in a new, Tajs U-shaped banquettes under eight-foot-tall silk lamps, lounge beds surrounded by pillows and ottomans, and couches on the mezzanine convey the essence of tropical South Asia- simple, relaxed, and hot. Thats not a problem when you can cool down with delicately mixed drinks with names like the Elder Flower, Budina, and Indian Rose.
Great for dates, and if you want to impress, order the mango-pineapple chutney shrimp appetizer or Bombay fries. Its a pleasant surprise. DJs trickle in during dinner hours and are storming with booty-grinding vinyl until late- all the more reason to stay out longer than planned.
